Guatemala - Asobagri
Asobagri is an association known as Barillense de Agricultores, is a group of Mayan coffee and cardamom farmers based in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. The organization was founded in 1989 by 20 farmers and has since grown to include approximately 30 members from small villages in the area.
Their coffee is grown under guava, plantain, and banana trees using agroforestry methods, which promote sustainable agriculture and creates a diverse ecosystem. In doing this they have achieved organic certification for its coffee. Making it world renowned for producing great coffee.
What truly sets ASOBAGRI apart is its unwavering commitment to preserving indigenous heritage and championing gender equality. Through groundbreaking initiatives like Café de Mujeres (Las Dueñas Café), ASOBAGRI empowers 182 female members with tailored training and unwavering support from dedicated women technicians.
